Greetings, fellow readers!
My weekly update is due, and I'm doing the best I can to keep y'all updated (and do work, and do wedding stuff, and train, and raise funds) within my busy schedule. Also, this Friday is LLS' PURPLE DAY so we've been very busy selling our promotional goodies!
This week's summary: EPIC SUCCESS.
Tangled up like yarn |
Tuesday I had my Yoga class, and it was perfect because I went in feeling like a messy ball of yarn, and left like a freed string.
Wednesday went phenomenal. I finally got to run my laps at a steady pace which I felt comfy with, and I didn't get tired. I just kept going, and now the track doesn't seem as big and intimidating as it used to. (Success!) In all fairness, Wednesdays have been great so far.

Saturday:
This past Saturday I was up ÜBER early (3:30AM kind of early). By the time I was making myself a light b-fast I noticed some peeps were returning home from partying it up all night. (ouch!) I didn't leave anything behind, and I made it on time to our meeting point. For that practice, since we were leaving the track's premises while it was dark out, we were asked not to wear headphones, to wear our team shirt, and to follow our coaches. We were escorted by the local policemen who ensured that we ran safely (¡Gracias a los amigos del cuartel de Parque Central!), and we ran 6 miles (!!!) from the park to one of the blocks towards the entrance of Old San Juan. This time we had our team oasis (¡Gracias Ligia!), which on the way back was like Manna from Heaven above.
On the way up my energy level was high, and I was keeping the coach's pace. On the way back, however, I slowed down because I'm not used to running non-stop for so long, so I took my sweet time to make it back running. Since I was running so slowly I was able to take a few pics of the group and the scenery. I also had a serious conversation with the Mr. up There to negotiate that if I finished the training (running non-stop) He would grant me the official awesome news (which involves a 3rd party, so I'm not at liberty to say).
The epic news: I made it back, like the Tortoise: slow but steady. The coach accompanied me on that last 1/4 mile cheering me up (also making me laugh) until I rejoined my group. They all cheered when I returned, which makes me laugh 'cause I guess I'm officially "The Slow One"- granted, most of the group have legs twice the length of mine. Regardless of this, I am SO happy I made it! Endurance hasn't been my thing so far, specially when I speed up. I was told by my coach that we're gonna start working on lengthening my running steps and working more on my breathing- yay!
Saturday's training ended with a little treat from the LLS: a Yoga class! Everything went well, and we even took a new group picture (in which the sun didn't attack our eyes).
Overall: I am feeling grateful, hopeful, and excited, and I wish the same for you all.
Peace!
-B
